World Toilet Organization
The World Toilet Organization (WTO) is a global non-profit organization committed to improving sanitation and toilet conditions around the world. Founded in 2001 by Singaporean entrepreneur Jack Sim, the WTO works towards its mission of ensuring that everyone has access to clean and safe sanitation facilities.
Through various initiatives and partnerships, the WTO raises awareness about the importance of proper sanitation and hygiene practices. The organization advocates for policy changes and supports innovative solutions to address the global sanitation crisis.
The WTO organizes the annual World Toilet Summit, bringing together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss and share best practices in sanitation. This event serves as a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal of universal access to sanitation by 2030.
One of the key campaigns initiated by the WTO is the World Toilet Day, observed on November 19th each year. This campaign aims to break the taboo surrounding toilets and raise awareness about the importance of toilets in promoting good health, dignity, and well-being for all.
Through its work, the World Toilet Organization has made significant strides in improving sanitation conditions globally. However, there is still much work to be done to ensure that everyone has access to proper sanitation facilities. The WTO continues to champion its cause and work towards creating a world where no one is left behind in terms of sanitation.
